Michael Bates

Director

Mike Bates currently serves as Director and Audit Committee Chairman for BARRX Medical and is an active angel investor through the Band of Angels and Life Science Angels.  He has more than 30 years of experience in corporate financial management, including 17 years in the life science and medical technology industries.  Mike contributed to successful investor outcomes at his last four companies, all of which were sold at premium valuations.

Mike was CFO of St. Francis Medical Technologies, developer of a minimally invasive device and procedure to treat lumbar spinal stenosis, from 2005 until its sale to Kyphon Inc. in 2007 for $725 million. He previously served as CFO for Silicon Genetics, a bioinformatics company from April of 2000 through to its sale to Agilent Technologies in October 2004.  He also served as CFO for Collagen Aesthetics Inc., a publicly-traded medical device company that was sold to Inamed Corporation in 1999, and CFO of Penederm Incorporated, a publicly-traded specialty pharmaceutical company, which was sold to Mylan Laboratories in 1998.  Mike currently serves as a Board member of the Northern California Chapter of the Association of Bioscience Finance Officers (ABFO) and previously served as its Chairman.  He is a graduate of California State University at Hayward and received an MBA in Finance from the University of California at Berkeley.
